JOURNALS
Anomaly This is the regularly produced journal of record of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP, http://www.assap.ac.uk/ ). ASSAP (previously referred to in Chapter 8 with regards to its investigative approach) was founded in 1981 and contains a large body of honestly skeptical content regarding how to critically examine hauntings and other forms of high strangeness. While up to date research is often not referenced in their website (though it is due to be updated), this is an excellent site for fostering critical thinking, examining critical methods for examining purported hauntings, as well as alternative explanations for haunting. Anomaly, available to members, features in-depth articles about ASSAP research and investigations in addition to topics of interest to its readership. Although it is not peer-reviewed, as with the aforementioned journals, it aims to uphold a scientific standard in a more accessible style. - mentioned in Ghosted! Exploring the Haunting Reality of Paranormal Encounters (Ghosted)
Australian Journal of Parapsychology (AJPara) a peer-reviewed journal on the topics of extrasensory perception (ESP), psychokinesis (PK), and life after death;
aiprinc.org/journal.asp - mentioned in Extrasensory Perception: Support, Skepticism, and Science (ESP:SSS)
AJPara (https://www.informit.org/product-details/615/AJP/titles ) publishes articles on a range of parapsychological issues, such as extra-sensory perception (ESP), psychokinesis (PK), and the afterlife. It presents articles that are accessible to academic researchers and intelligent laypersons. Access to AJPara requires a membership subscription. Like the JP, this publication frequently contains articles related to research on ghost-related topics. - mentioned in Ghosted! Exploring the Haunting Reality of Paranormal Encounters (Ghosted)
European Journal of Parapsychology (published between 1975 and 2010) focuses on experimental and theoretical aspects of parapsychology; back issues available at http://ejp.wyrdwise.com/ - ESP:SSS
International Journal of Parapsychology focuses on experimental, theoretical, and philosophical aspects of parapsychology; http://www.parapsychology.org/dynamic/070100.html - ESP:SSS
Journal of Near-Death Studies, a peer-reviewed scholarly journal (ISSN 0891-4494)
devoted exclusively to the field of near-death studies; cross-disciplinary and published quarterly;
http://iands.org/publications/journal-of-near-death-studies.html
Journal of Parapsychology (JP), a publication of the Rhine Research Center focuses on experimental and theoretical aspects of parapsychology; http://www.parapsych.org/section/17/journal_of_parapsychology.aspx - ESP:SSS
JP is produced by the Rhine Research Center (and published by the Parapsychology Press, a subsidiary of the Rhine that holds the copyright, see: https://www.parapsychologypress.org/journal-of-parapsychology). JP features a range of scholarly material (e.g., editorials, research articles, literature reviews, and book reviews), including those related to the empirical study of ghostly episodes. However, access to the journal requires either subscription, certain levels of Rhine supporting membership, membership in the Parapsychological Association, or via some university libraries. - Ghosted
Journal of the Society for Scientific Exploration (JSE) publishes original research on consciousness, quantum physics and biophysics, unexplained aerial phenomena, alternative medicine, new energy, sociology, psychology, and more; http://www.scientificexploration.org/journal/ - ESP:SSS
JSE (https://www.scientificexploration.org/journal-library) is the quarterly, peer-reviewed journal of the Society for Scientific Exploration. Since 1987, the JSE has published original research on topics of interest that cover a wide spectrum of high-strangeness, ranging from apparent anomalies in well-established disciplines to rogue phenomena that seemingly belong to no established discipline, as well as philosophical issues about the connections among disciplines. The journal also sometimes contains papers on haunt-related phenomena. In 2018, JSE became a Platinum Open Access journal, meaning there is no fee to read or publish in it. Take advantage of this, as there is a broad array of articles covering the poorly researched fringes of science. - Ghosted
Journal of the Society for Psychical Research (JSPR) has been published continuously since 1884, promoting the Society’s aim of examining “without prejudice or prepossession and in a scientific spirit those faculties of man, real or supposed, which appear to be inexplicable on any generally recognised hypothesis.” The Journal’s contents reflect the wide range of our contributors’ specialisms and interests and include reports of current laboratory and fieldwork research, as well as theoretical, methodological and historical papers with a bearing on the field of parapsychology; http://www.spr.ac.uk/page/spr-publications-parapsychology - ESP:SSS
The Society for Psychical Research (SPR), founded in London in 1882, was the first scientific organization to examine claims of psychic and paranormal phenomena. It was founded “to examine without prejudice or prepossession and in a scientific spirit those faculties of man, real or supposed, which appear to be inexplicable on any generally recognized hypothesis” (https://www.spr.ac.uk/). The SPR’s aim is to gather information and foster understanding through research and education. Accordingly, the SPR produces its subscription-based journal, i.e., JSPR, that publishes empirical studies, research notes, and short Letters to the Editor. This includes a fair number of articles on ghost-related topics. Notably, the JSPR is the longest-standing parapsychology journal in existence, spanning well over 90 years. The SPR also published the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research and the issues from the late 1800s/early 1900s form a treasure trove of accounts, research and perspectives on all manner of psychical research. The SPR have a useful page on their website which provides brief summaries of most of the articles published in the Journal and Proceedings from 1884 to 2011. If you have some money burning in your pocket, a membership to this organization is worth the journal. - Ghosted
Mindfield This bulletin is published by the Parapsychological Association (PA) (https://parapsych.org/home.aspx), which is the international professional organization of scientists and scholars engaged in the study of “psi” (or “psychic”) experiences. For citizen scientists who want to keep informed about what parapsychology is up to, we recommend investing in the fees to become a member of the PA, which is not restricted to scientists. The membership comes with a subscription to the journal, but also to the PA’s magazine called Mindfield that covers various themes and issues in parapsychology, as well as interesting snippets about projects or research. Further, this magazine is written more informally and is a good source of lay person information about the latest thinking from parapsychologists around the world. Economic times can be tough, but the subscription rates are reasonable for online access. The information provided is well worth the investment. - Ghosted
Some Honorable Mentions
Parapsychologists occasionally publish in mainstream science journals, although we must be exceedingly selective in terms of what journals will even review papers that hint at the dreaded topic of “parapsychology.” Among the most sympathetic of these journals is Frontiers in Psychology, which is an open-access online publication articles are easily accessible and downloadable.
Perceptual and Motor Skills, Psychological Reports, Personality and Individual Differences, and Explore: Journal of Science and Healing also publish reports on parapsychological topics, but these journals are available by subscription only.
Finally, there are the now-defunct European Journal of Parapsychology (EJP), which stopped publishing in 2010, and the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research (JASPR), which ceased in 2004. Sadly, articles in these journals are hard to get, even with academic access. The Society for Scientific Exploration has a library database (if you are a member) that allows you to review the parapsychology articles published in these journals. Otherwise, they can be exceedingly difficult to obtain. Also, noteworthy is the Parapsychology Foundation’s International Journal of Parapsychology, which was published from 1959 to 1968 and again briefly from 2000 to 2001. Unfortunately, financial constraints and other events stopped the publication of this journal.
In the interest of being balanced, we should also mention the Skeptical Inquirer (SI). The SI (www.skepticalinquirer.org) purportedly contains content from leading authors in science, skepticism, medicine, media, activism, and advocacy—all devoted to the cause of “advancing science over pseudoscience, media literacy over conspiracy theories, and critical thinking over magical thinking.” This publication regularly produces subscription-based editions that are highly skeptical in nature. The reality is that the SI typically seeks to debunk certain topics and classic cases, but often via poor logic, lack of knowledge in science and philosophy, and highly unlikely explanations that have a popularist appeal. To be clear, SI is a magazine versus a peer-reviewed research journal. It thus arguably does not have the same level of protections in place that scientific journals use to curate content of integrity or justification. Furthermore, most of its contributors are not scientists.
SI has been repeatedly, and rightfully, accused of engaging in pseudo-skepticism (aka the belief that the paranormal cannot occur, no matter what). As such, many of its articles drastically reach into very improbable causes in their attempts to debunk parapsychology. Notably, they have consistently failed over many decades to debunk science presented in parapsychological journals and at the time of this writing, tend to avoid parapsychology now. There has been, unfortunately, a heated war spanning decades between the SI and parapsychologists, which has mostly been political and social in terms of promoting science as a purely materialist (and therefore an anti-spiritual or religious) force, which is frankly the open agenda of the magazine.
That said, we encourage you to read SI but do so very critically. The Ghost Gang advocates proper skepticism over “debunking.” Skeptical thinking requires open-mindedness to evaluate evidence fairly and critically. Candidly, we think you are unlikely to find this approach used consistently in the SI. But to its credit, the magazine does occasionally provide solid critique on some metaphysical topics, and we believe it is good to consider ghostly episodes from all perspectives. However, we recommend that you treat the SI much like a religious magazine. Many of the individuals there hold to certain “popular” scientific beliefs as if they were religious dogma, even though many of these beliefs have been debunked by science. The SI, in fact, does a poor job at being skeptical, but a great job at fostering an ideological unquestioning belief in dogmatic science.

Dean Radin’s List
From: https://www.deanradin.com/recommended-references
This is a short list of peer-reviewed journal articles and books about psi phenomena. It includes articles of historical interest, general overviews, critical reviews, and descriptions of psi applications. These articles appeared in specialty journals as well as top-tier outlets, including Nature, Science, The Lancet, Proceedings of the IEEE, Psychological Bulletin, Foundations of Physics, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, and Behavioral and Brain Sciences.
A comprehensive review would run into the thousands of articles, so this list is necessarily highly selected. I will add more as time allows. Be sure to note the links at the bottom of this page; those websites contain many more articles. If you find broken or incorrect links, or you don't see an article that you think should be added here, please let me know.
The international professional organization for scientists and scholars interested in psi phenomena is the Parapsychological Association, an elected affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the largest mainstream scientific organization in the world. Anyone who claims that parapsychology is a pseudoscience doesn't know what they're talking about.
Can psi phenomena be repeated in controlled laboratory tests? Yes. Here's a good article that summarizes the state of the art as of 2018: Cardeña (2018). The experimental evidence for parapsychological phenomena: A review. American Psychologist. pdf

Recommended books
Besides my own books (shameless plug), this is my minimal recommended reading list for those serious about getting up to speed on the psi literature. A good starter library might consist of about 50 titles. A comprehensive library would easily run over 1,000 volumes. The links point to Amazon out of convenience, but these books are available wherever books are sold. If you don't see a book that ought to be here, let me know.

Sharon A. Hill
Reading list for paranormal investigation and research
By Sharon A. Hill | April 23, 2018
Books
In a recent discussion with a paranormal investigation group, I found myself referencing recommending books to check out for the latest on interesting facets of the field. I decided to share this annotated list.
First, there are three books that are “Handbooks” for spontaneous cases.
They put ghost-hunting gadgetry in its place and re-orient the investigator to the proper aim of investigation: define the claim, assess if anything is happening, and then solve the problem. I consider these the best modern guides. If you are intent on pretending to be a TV-type investigator, then go waste your money on the paraceleb guides.
Scientific Paranormal Investigation (2010) by Benjamin Radford.
I reviewed this book here where I recommended it as a much-needed critical and logical guide to actually solving mysteries. Get it.
Radford expanded on the 2010 book with Investigating Ghosts: The Scientific Search for Spirits (2018) to tackle more specifics in depth including EVP evidence.
Ghostology: The Art of the Ghost Hunter (2015) by Steve Parsons. Why are you using that gadget? Why do you conduct a “sweep” of the room? Do you even know why or is it just because you saw it on television? Parsons hits every point and is clear about what you should or should not bother with. This is a true ghost hunting guide. For more details, I reviewed it here. Get it in Kindle.
It’s important to have a background on the cultural history of ghosts. The classic book on the historical context of ghosts is Ghosts: Appearances of the Dead and Cultural Transformation (1996, 2nd ed.) by R.C. Finucane. You simply can’t claim to understand the present phenomena of ghosts if you know nothing about how ghosts were depicted in the past. Get it.
Spirits of an Industrial Age: Ghost Imposture, Spring-heeled Jack and Victorian Society (2014) by Jacob Middleton . I was enamored with this book from which I learned an incredible amount of historical context for spirits and cultural ideas about haunting. The genuine stories taken from the media reports of a bygone era are fascinating. This book is highly readable, yet scholarly. Pick it up on Kindle for a steal.
The Haunted: A social history of ghosts (2007) by Owen Davies. This volume is incredibly well-researched. It can be dry at times but it is an essential volume to have as the social history of ghosts is THE history. This book is highly regarded and regularly referenced by scholars of ghost lore and literature. Get it.
The following three books are key volumes on modern examinations of ghost activity and cultural aspects.
Australian Poltergeists: The Stone-throwing Spook of Humpty Doo and Many Other Cases (2014) by Paul Cropper and Tony Healy. Stories of stone-throwing and fire-starting troubling house ghosts are not new. Yet the same themes occur in the present day. Cropper and Healy do an excellent job of documenting these cases, many of which were researched in person. Though they can’t explain what’s going on, I can’t recall another volume of this type. I wish the same book was done for other places in the world. More in my review here. Get it on Kindle.
Paranormal Media: Audiences, Spirits and Magic in Popular Culture (2010) by Annette Hill (no relation) This book is based on research into paranormal popular media addressing both a UK and US perspective. I used this book heavily for my thesis work. It is a scholarly book so the price is a bit steep but borrow it if you have to as this is essential information to consider when evaluating ghost claims. I reviewed it here.
Parapsychology: A Handbook for the 21st Century (2015) edited by Etzel Cardeña, John Palmer, David Marcusson-Clavertz. This textbook is hefty but necessary. If one is to claim that they work in the field of amateur parapsychology, then you ought to at least know the state of the science. Even a perusal of this volume will show the wide chasm between ghost hunters and academic parapsycholgy. Read more about this here in my review. It’s often available through university libraries but the Kindle edition is reasonable.
In Alan Brown’s Ghost Hunters of New England (2008) you read firsthand candid views and opinions from amateur groups who bumped up against the “top” group The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) who went on to do the Ghost Hunters TV show. The groups interviewed for this book expressed their ties or distance to or from TAPS and the Connecticut-based, self-styled demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren. I saw their comments as revealing, provide curious trackbacks to what motivates a group and how they attempt to either follow an already forged path or try to differentiate themselves from the group in the next town. Some animosity and jealousy is apparent as groups hide their data from each other and stake out territory. Brown also tackled the groups in the South in a similar book. Get it.
Finally, these two volumes are excellent at discussing the booming paranormal business of today in historical contexts. If you don’t think that’s important to understand, you are missing a huge body of understanding.
Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places (2016) by Colin Dickey. This book was so entertaining and enjoyable I could not put it down. After getting it from the library, I had to purchase a copy. It delves into the accurate history of places like Salem, the Lalaurie mansion, and the Winchester House. I was enlightened. And sometimes really angry at how the truth is buried for a quick buck. Absolutely grab this one.
Haunted Heritage: The Cultural Politics of Ghost Tourism, Populism, and the Past (2015) Michele Hanks. This book was an expansion of a thesis. Hanks covered a good bit of what I did as well in my book but in the UK so there are some differences. But it was critical to see how she developed the contexts for ghost researchers at their various levels of involvement. She showed how they long for experiences and ownership of their own heritage. U.S. readers will find these themes resonate in their communities as well. It will reveal a whole other level of meaning for participation in paranormal activities. Get it.
And of course, please purchase my book on paranormal researchers, Scientifical Americans. Head over to the page for more info.

These two are the oldest documents on the topic of spiritualism and the famous Hydesville/Rochester paranormal manifestations of 1848, and the first consists of witness statements taken within about two weeks after the events, and published in the same year. Whenever studying this topic, you should be trying to get documents written as close to the reported events as possible; and these are such documents.

If you take the time to register at www.archive.org, which does not take long, the door will be opened to a huge number of more modern books, which you can "borrow" on an hourly basis simply by pressing a Borrow button after logging in. By clicking on the Borrow button after registering, you will be able to read important works on the paranormal such as these:
Life After Life by Raymond Moody;
Hidden Channels of the Mind by Louisa Rhine, who was one of the leading collectors of accounts of spontaneous telepathy and spontaneous precognition;
Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder;
The Gift: ESP, the Extraordinary Experiences of Ordinary People by Sally Rhine Feather and Michael Schmicker;
Extra-sensory perception after sixty years; a critical appraisal of the research in extra-sensory perception, a long book co-edited by Joseph Rhine that gives details on some of the best experimental evidence for ESP;
What Happens When You Die by Robert Crookall PhD, which contains many interesting accounts of out-of-body experiences;
Out-of-Body Experiences: A Handbook by Janet Lee Mitchell;
Forty Years of Psychic Research by Hamlin Garland, which you can read here;
Extraordinary Experiences: Personal Accounts of the Paranormal in Canada by John Robert Colombo;
At the Hour of Death by Karlis Osis and Erlendur Haraldsson, a book on deathbed visions and apparitions;
The Encyclopedia of Occultism and Parapsychology edited by Leslie A. Shepard, in two volumes (which can be read here and here);
Apparitions and Survival of Death by Raymond Bayless.
Phantom Encounters by the editors of Time-Life books. While it discusses quite a few dubious cases as part of its highly entertaining and visually appealing presentation, this book also includes a discussion of many important and evidential apparition cases.
An aspect of www.archive.org that I particularly like is that there are individual URLs for each page. So if a scholar is citing page 347 of some book, he can include a link that takes the reader exactly to that specific page.
Other sources of information about psychical phenomena are listed below:
The Psi Encyclopedia of the Society for Psychical Research (available here).
The page here of the Parapsychology Foundation has links to very many papers about psychical phenomena, which can all be conveniently read online.
The much older 1932 Encyclopedia of Psychic Science by Nandor Fodor available here.
The book-length document on ESP evidence here, "Extrasensory Perception: Research Findings" by John Palmer, which includes in white text below the book a book-length document ("Notes on the Paranormal") on evidence for the paranormal, written by Ben Steigmann. The latter document contains very many links to online original source materials on psychical research.
The page here gives links to hundreds of books you can read online, all dealing with the paranormal or spiritual phenomena. Very conveniently, we have a very long table of links, which is in chronological order. The list includes books providing evidence for the paranormal, as well as quite a few books trying to discredit such phenomena. Many of the books on the page are worth reading, and many others are not worth reading.
The videos here and here seem to provide modern evidence for clairvoyance.
My very long post "Candid Confessions of the Scientists" contains links to very many papers and books by scientists who challenged the most prevalent thinking in fields such as chemistry, neuroscience, biochemistry, physics, natural history and cosmology. Many of that post's links can be followed for illumination on such topics. My very long post "120+ Types of Paranormal or Anomalous Experiences" contains countless links to interesting papers and books on that topic. Below are books or articles on topics such as biology and cosmology and psychology:
Cosmo Sapiens: Human Evolution From the Origin of the Universe by John Hands. The book is discussed in my post here.
A Fortunate Universe: Life in a Finely Tuned Cosmos by astrophysics professor Geraint F. Lewis and astronomy postdoctoral researcher Luke A. Barnes. The book is discussed in my post here.
Why Us? How Science Rediscovered the Mystery of Ourselves by physician James Le Fanu. The book is discussed in my post here.
"Using statistical methods to model the fine-tuning of molecular machines and systems" by Steinar Thorvaldsen and Ola Hössjer. This peer-reviewed paper in the mainstream Journal of Theoretical Biology discusses very well the evidence for fine-tuning in biology and physics.
"The Cell as a Collection of Protein Machines: Preparing the Next Generation of Molecular Biologists" by Bruce Alberts. This peer-reviewed scientific paper is essential reading for students of biological complexity.
"The Fine-Tuning of the Universe for Intelligent Life" by Luke A. Barnes. This paper (also available here) is a lengthy peer-reviewed paper discussing the evidence for fine-tuning in physics and cosmology.
"Giving Up Darwin" by computer scientist David Gelernter. Trying to explaining the reasons why Darwinian ideas cannot explain the appearance of proteins, Gelernter does a good job, but actually underestimates the difficulties. He lists the average amino-acid length of a protein as 250, but eukaryotic proteins (like those in our body) actually have an average of about 472 amino acids, according to the paper here; and achieving proteins of that size by unguided processes is more than a billion trillion quadrillion times harder.

PURPOSE
This document is for:
* people new to the topic who want a solid foundation at the start of their search for answers
* skeptics who should consider that the answers aren’t as simple as a single Google search or a mere day of topic perusal
* journalists who want a primer on the history of the phenomenon
* government leaders, representatives, fact finders, aides, bureaucrats
* military rank-and-file, leaders, and investigators new to the topic
This is just a beginning with a few major concepts outlined in brief. If you don’t know what something is, search it out to get more detail. Any included links are meant only as starting points and examples, not as the “final word” on anything.
You may count yourself in the camp of the skeptics. That’s fine. Just don’t make the mistake of not questioning your own skepticism as more evidence comes to light.
As Herbert Spencer once said,
"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance – that principle is contempt prior to investigation."
The reader is encouraged to do their own investigation and come to their own conclusions.

Non local Consciousness, the Paranormal, and the Contact Modalities
A Greater Reality https://agreaterreality.com/
The New Paradigm of Nonlocal Consciousness, the Paranormal, and the Contact Modalities
CCRI, the Consciousness & Contact Research Institute, is an interdisciplinary research organization consisting mainly of Ph.D. academics and medical doctors. Our team aims to explore the broad range of psychophysical phenomena often referred to as "paranormal" and their connection to the concept of "consciousness" and the multi-dimensional aspects of reality. Our members specialize in various fields, including Astrophysics, Theoretical Physics, Philosophy, Psychiatry, Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology, Quantum Biology, Information Sciences, Parapsychology, and Medicine.
At CCRI, our researchers propose the following ideas:
1) We suggest that consciousness may be the fundamental aspect of reality rather than the physical world that we perceive. Our hypothesis is that physical reality is a manifestation of consciousness, experienced through our five senses. However, this perception might not fully represent the true nature of existence. We believe that human consciousness may temporarily inhabit a physical form within a more extensive, encompassing reality that could be described as both "spiritual" and "virtual." According to this perspective, when our physical bodies cease to function, our individual consciousness may return to a collective source, which we refer to as The Mind of GOD. A more in-depth exploration of this concept can be found in the book, "The Mind of GOD: A Spiritual-Virtual Reality Model of Consciousness & the Contact Modalities."
2) We propose that various phenomena often labeled as "paranormal contact," which we at CCRI refer to as "The Contact Modalities" (interactions with Non-Human Intelligence through NDEs, UFOs, OBEs, Astral Travel, Spirits/Ghosts, Psychedelic Journeys, Remote Viewing, PSI, and other forms), could represent a single, unified phenomenon connected to consciousness. Consequently, if consciousness is fundamental, all Contact Modalities should be studied and understood within the context of a consciousness-based framework.
In the near future, CCRI members plan to conduct a comprehensive, worldwide, multi-language academic research project examining the common experiences of those who have encountered the Contact Modalities. Our team believes that comparing and analyzing these individuals' experiences could be crucial in gaining a deeper understanding of the potential relationship between consciousness and contact with Non-Human Intelligence (NHI). We define NHI as "any form of conscious intelligence that is not a physical 4D human being." This definition encompasses anomalous entities defined in our culture as ghosts, spirits, angels, demons, extraterrestrials, aliens, energy beings, and non-physical beings. Our primary objective is to investigate the following question: "What is the relationship between consciousness and contact with Non-Human Intelligence via the Contact Modalities?"
The CCRI organization has been recently established, and while we have not formally initiated our academic research study, we aim to introduce our mission and research agenda by developing a co-edited 4-volume book series. Each book will be approximately 800 pages and titled: "A Greater Reality: The New Paradigm of Non-local Consciousness, the Paranormal and the Contact Modalities."
The five editors of our book series include Dr. Rudy Schild (Emeritus Professor of Astrophysics at Harvard University), Dr. Jon Klimo (Professor of Psychology at various universities for over 45 years), Dr. Jeffrey Long (a medical doctor, NDE research pioneer, and author of two NDE books), Dr. Michael Grosso (Ph.D. from Columbia University and Professor of Philosophy for over 40 years), and Reinerio (Rey) Hernandez, who attended UC Berkeley for a Ph.D. and was the recipient of a National Science Foundation Ph.D. Fellowship.
Rey Hernandez’s new book, "A Greater Reality - One Man’s Journey of Discovery", is now available.
Volumes 1 & 2 of the book A Greater Reality are our theoretical volumes and feature articles by Ph.D. academics, medical doctors and researchers who have focused on researching the connection between Consciousness and the Contact Modalities.
Volumes 3 - 6 feature articles written by more than 75 major Experiencers of the Contact Modalities who each have had many diverse contact experiences with perceived Higher Forms of Intelligence via the Contact Modalities. Volume 6 will be available August, 2025. (Vol 6 not yet available as of Nov 6, 2025 - Chris)

International Consciousness Research Laboratories
International Consciousness Research Laboratories (ICRL) is an international, interdisciplinary, and intergenerational consortium of some 75 members, most of whom were associated with the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) laboratory at Princeton University as interns or research collaborators over its thirty-year history. The goal is to extend the work of PEAR into a broader range of inquiry: to encourage a new generation of creative investigators to expand the boundaries of scientific understanding; and to strengthen the foundations of science by reclaiming its spiritual heritage. Ultimately, ICRL seek to integrate the subjective and objective dimensions of human experience into a self-reflective Science of the Subjective.
Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health
The Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health (LACH) was established at the University of Arizona Department of Psychology to to creatively and responsibly apply mainstream scientific methods to frontier questions in consciousness and health. Their eight specific areas of research are: volution of Consciousness and Understanding (Universal Hypotheses and Post-Materialism), The Role of Consciousness in Health and Healing, Survival of Consciousness After Death, Quantum Holographic Consciousness, Group and Global Consciousness, Animal Consciousness, Other Worldly / Higher Spiritual Consciousness, and the Universal Intelligence Hypothesis. Gary Schwartz is the current director of the LACH.
Parapsychological Association
This Association is an international professional organization of scientists and scholars engaged in the study of psychic experiences such as telepathy, clairvoyance, remote viewing, psychokinesis, psychic healing and precognition. Such experiences seem to challenge contemporary conceptions of human nature and the physical world, and appear to involve the transfer of information in ways that are currently unexplained. The primary objection of the Parapsychological Association is to achieve a scientific understanding of these experiences. PA members develop and refine methodologies for studying psychic experiences and their physical, biological or psychological underpinnings. They assess hypotheses through experiments, conceptual models and field investigations in a spirit of open-minded skepticism. The PA provides an international forum of scholarly exchanges through annual conventions and through the publication of proceedings from these conferences. Affiliated with the PA is the peer-reviewed journal, The Journal of Parapsychology.
Parapsychological Association Website
Parapsychology Foundation
This Foundation, based in New York City, gives grants and organizes conferences. It encourages and supports impartial scientific enquiry into such seemingly psychical aspects of human nature as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, psychokinesis, mediumship, ghosts and hauntings, out-of-the-body experiences, reincarnation and other psychic experiences and phenomena. The Foundation provides professional resources and information to the academic and lay communities and serves as a clearing house for information on parapsychology and psychical research.

We aim to transform the way that scholarly research is coordinated and funded. Ultimately, we want anyone who is interested in pursuing high-quality scholarly research to be able to do so. Moreover, we want these people to be able to pursue their research in a way that is consistent with all of their life’s priorities.
Science Frontiers Digest of Scientific Anomalies
Science Frontiers is a bimonthly newsletter providing digests of reports that describe scientific anomalies; that is, those observations and facts that challenge prevailing scientific paradigms. Over 2000 Science Frontiers digests have been published since 1976. Over 14,000 volumes of science journals, including all issues of Nature and Science have been examined for reports on anomalies. Disciplines include archaeology, astronomy, biology, geology, geophysics, mathematics, psychology and physics. The Science Frontiers Web sites includes over 2000 digests that are fully searchable.
Society for Interdisciplinary Studies
The SIS was formed in 1974 to consider the role global cosmic catastrophes may have played in our history, and even recorded by cultures worldwide in their oral and written ancient traditions. The society also consider the effect catastrophes have on other disciplines, such as biology, cosmology, geology, psychology, archaeoastronomy, astrophysics, linguistics, and other areas such as religion. Catastrophism demands that there should be corroboration between disciplines, making catastrophism truly interdisciplinary and inclusive. The society publishes Chronology and Catastrophism Review.
Templeton World Charity
The Templeton World Charity Foundation - which is separate from the regular Templeton Foundation - has a truly ambitious consciousness project. They've created a complex, six stage procedure for grant development, and don't accept unsolicited proposals (outside open calls for their target initiatives). Experiments involving psi would certainly be relevant to their intention to investigate, and decide between, rival theories of consciousness. Having significantly funded nearly 100 projects with large universities, small colleges, nonprofits and private companies, they have a real chance of moving the whole field forwards.
We aim to provide scientific breakthroughs and practical tools relating to the search for meaning, purpose, and truth.
Using a variety of funding, networking and outreach mechanisms, we will support targeted scientific experiments to investigate different theories of consciousness.
Templeton World Charity Foundation Templeton Prize
The Center for Consciousness Studies
The Center for Consciousness Studies (CCS), based at the University of Arizona, was formed in 1998 with a seed grant from the Fetzer Institute. The 1994 Tucson conference on "Toward a Science of Consciousness" is widely regarded as a landmark event, and the subsequent series of biennial conferences in Tucson organized by the Center have attracted extraordinary international, interdisciplinary interest. The Center is a unique institution whose aim is to bring together the perspectives of philosophy, the cognitive sciences, neuroscience, the social sciences, medicine, and the physical sciences, the arts and humanities, to move toward an integrated understanding of human consciousness. The Center is unique in its broad-spectrum approach. Other groups tend focus either on cognitive neuroscience, philosophy or purely phenomenal experiential approaches, whereas the Center not only integrates these areas, but "thinks outside the box" of conventional wisdom which has thus far, at least, failed to make significant breakthroughs. The Center has also inspired other groups such as the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness who organize other conferences.
The Electric Universe
This organization is skeptical about the assumptions on which mainstream astronomy and cosmology are founded. In particular its members question the assumption that gravitational fields are the dominant forces shaping the cosmos. They emphasize the role of electrical fields, currents and plasma discharges. They also criticize the assumption that objects exhibiting red shifts must be moving away from us. Instead, they suggest that red shift is more a measure of an object's youth than its velocity, and that the Universe is highly electrical in nature. Building on the work of modern plasma physics and cosmologists such as Halton Arp, they suggest a radically different approach to astronomy and cosmology, with significant ramifications in geology, history and biology. They also organize annual conferences and post regular online updates through the Thunderbolts Project website.

The Fortean Times
The Fortean Times is a monthly magazine of news, reviews and research on strange phenomena and experiences, curiosities, prodigies and portents. It was founded in 1973 to continue the work of Charles Fort, an eccentric independent researcher who was skeptical about scientific explanations for anomalous phenomena. He delighted in pointing out how scientists argued according to their own beliefs rather than the rules of evidence, showing how inconvenient data were ignored, suppressed, discredited or explained away. He spent many years researching scientific literature in the New York Public Library and the British Museum and marshaled his evidence and set out his philosophy in a series of books published between 1919 and 1932. The Fortean Times continues his tradition in a lively and amusing form. Its sub-title is 'The Journal of Strange Phenomena'.
The Foyle Research Institute of Monaco (FRI)
Headed by philanthropist Christopher Foyle, FRIM supports innovative and controversial science in seven areas.
While the institute accepts unsolicited proposals for funding, any proposal must be highly innovative and impactful. Their focus is on near term applications more than basic research, however they encourage proposals for ideas "outside your area of expertise" or simply "research you would like to see but can't do yourself".
"In order to reduce the amount of paperwork for researchers, the Foyle Research Institute of Monaco (FRIM) will be using a "Pre-Proposal" system, whereby researchers will be requested to submit a 1-3 page executive summary of the research they are proposing. Using such a system serves both the researchers and FRIM, in that researchers do not have to spend a great deal of effort developing a fully detailed proposal and risk it not being accepted for funding."
The Institute for Research on Extraordinary Experiences (INREES)
The Institute for Research on Extraordinary Experiences (INREES) presents rigorous scientific research while keeping in mind, as emphasized by the scientists themselves, that the knowledge we have about the nature of reality is limited and uncertain. It offers testimonials on unexplained experiences reported in good faith by tens of thousands of people, allowing them to be heard without prejudging. It also provides advice and support for these people, considering the unjustified skepticism they often face.
The Institute for Venture Science
IVS is interested in a wide range of subjects, from gravity, magnetism, relativity and the physics of water to consciousness, NDEs and remote viewing to cancer and global warming.
"The Institute for Venture Science (IVS) will fund high-risk, non-traditional scientific inquiries that may produce fundamental breakthroughs. We identify the most promising challenges to prevailing paradigms. We then simultaneously fund multiple research groups worldwide for each selected challenge."
"The IVS will fund the idea, not just the person advancing that idea. That is, it will seek out and fund multiple groups using diverse approaches to pursue the same unconventional idea. A dozen – even a half dozen - groups cannot be ignored. Challenger and orthodoxy will therefore compete on equal footing, and the better of the two approaches will soon prevail."
The Institute for Venture Science Website
The International Academy of Consciousness
The International Academy of Consciousness (IAC) is a truly global non-profit research and education organization with a presence in nine countries, as well as a research campus in Portugal. The IAC conducts formal and informal research on psychic phenomena, particularly involving the out-of-body experience and the projection of consciousness outside of the physical body using individual experience, the development of intersubjective abilities, and laboratory research methodologies. IAC publishes research papers and articles related to the study of the consciousness. IAC also offers a Global Award for Scientific Contribution to Conscientiology to encourage researchers who've made significant advances in consciousness science.
Although IAC is an organization which studies and teaches techniques to develop psi capacities, it advocates a sense of healthy, open-minded skepticism. The IAC is not affiliated with any religious, political, or governmental organization and its activities are solely for research and educational purposes.
The Laszlo Institute
The Laszlo Institute seeks to become a leading-edge, internationally recognized center of research, promoting the new paradigm emerging in science and society, and exploring and disseminating its implications and applications in regard to human wellbeing and social and ecological sustainability.
Their mission is to open fresh theoretical and practical perspectives based on cutting-edge scientific research, bringing together open-minded scientists and lay people to develop and communicate emerging ideas.
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) was established in 1998 by the US Congress at the National Institute of Health to support research on complementary and alternative medicine. The NCCIH advocates for quality science, rigorous research and an open-minded enquiry into which practices work, which do not, and why. Its over-riding mission is to find reliable information about the safety and effectiveness of complementary and alternative medical practices. The Center has a budget of about $100 million per year and gives grants for innovative research to test alternative and complementary therapies, for conducting controlled randomized clinical trials, for investigating placebo effects, and for investigating acupuncture. It also provides training opportunities for researchers and career development awards. This is by far the best-funded organization for pioneering research in unconventional areas.
The Nature Institute
The Institute serves as a local, national, and international forum for research, education, and the exchange of ideas about the re-visioning of science and technology in an effort to realign humanity with nature. The Nature Institute's methodology is inspired by integrative thinkers and scientists, such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Rudolf Steiner, Owen Barfield, and Kurt Goldstein.
The Scientific and Medical Network
The Scientific and Medical Network (SMN) is a worldwide professional community and membership organisation for open-minded, rigorous and evidence-based enquiry into themes bridging science, spirituality and consciousness. It promotes a cultural shift in our understanding of reality and human experience beyond the limits imposed by exclusively materialist and reductionist approaches.
The Network brings together discerning people who are inclined to a non-materialist interpretation of the universe and who have a sympathetic interest in parapsychological and spiritual matters. It plays a critical role as a supportive group, where everyone’s efforts towards developing an open and disciplined mind may be refined. Hence Network conferences, seminars and special interest groups provide a safe haven in which frontier issues and ideas at the interface between science, spirituality and consciousness can be freely explored and tested against the evidence, furthering personal growth and inner development.
SMN is the co-ordinator of the Galileo Commission, and publishes the Paradigm Explorer journal.
SMN Website the Galileo Commission
The Society for Psychical Research
The Society for Psychical Research, founded in Britain in 1882, is the longest-established organization anywhere in the world for exploring unexplained human abilities. Its purpose is to "advance the understanding of events and abilities commonly described as 'psychic' or 'paranormal' without prejudice and in a scientific manner." The Society does this by promoting and supporting important research and by publishing scholarly reports. It acts as a forum for debate, organizes conferences, meetings and study days and publishes a peer-reviewed scientific journal, The Journal of the Society for Psychical Research and a more informal newsletter, The Paranormal Review.
The Psi Encyclopedia is a new resource being created by the Society for Psychical Research in London, partly as an alternative to Wikipedia and its pseudo-skeptical bias against Psi topics.
The Society for Scientific Exploration
The Society was founded in 1982 by a committee of scientists and scholars to foster the study of questions that are amenable to scientific investigation, without restriction. Despite the enormous advances in science in the last century there are important areas that remain almost unexplored, some of great public interest. Is the mind a machine or an entity in some sense independent of the body? Is there credible evidence that life exists on other planets, or that our solar system has ever been visited by extra terrestrial beings? Some areas have technological potentials that could be of great benefit. Do some human beings have the capacity of locating water and other resources? Are there sources of energy available to mankind other than sunlight, fossil fuels and nuclear energy? The Society has about 800 members and associates from more than 45 countries and provides a forum for the presentation and criticism of research. It holds regular meetings and conferences and publishes a quarterly peer-reviewed journal, The Journal of Scientific Exploration.
TV NUPES
NUPES, Núcleo de Pesquisas em Espiritualidade e Saúde (The Interface Between Sciences, Spirituality And Health), is a Brazil-based bilingual internet TV channel in Portuguese and English on spirituality, science and health.
Water Research
Recent research on water has revealed many surprises, including the existence of highly-ordered regions of water near hydrophilic surfaces, so-called Exclusion Zones, and the ability of structured water to draw energy form ambient infra-red radiation, with many biological implications. Recent discoveries about this "fourth phase" of water could lead to new technologies for filtration, desalination and water-based solar energy. One of the leaders in this field is Dr Gerald Pollack, at the University of Washington, Seattle. Pollack is also the editor of Water, a multidisciplinary research journal. Researchers form many water-related disciplines meet at the Annual Conferences on the Physics, Chemistry and Biology of water, which are remarkably open-minded scientific gatherings.

Science of nonlocal Consciousness by Patrizio Tressoldi and Michael Duggan
What if Consciousness were primary? Primary to everything we know and we may know, e.g. matter, energy, time, space, brain, concepts, feelings, emotions, etc. and hence essentially nonlocal?
This is an old philosophical stance, which we can trace in the idealism, panpsychism, some forms of dualism, mental monism, dual aspect monism, etc. and at the core of Taoism and Buddhism.
Is it possible to test this metaphysical axiom with the scientific tools? Is it possible a Science of nonlocal Consciousness?
This collection aims at offering the best theoretical and empirical interdisciplinary scientific contributions related to this topic.

Books
“Must Have” Compendium Books mentioned in Ghosted! Exploring the Haunting Reality of Paranormal Encounters
There are numerous books of various kinds that talk about ghostly episodes. As we lack the space here to provide full annotated bibliographies of all the classic and current texts that students should ideally read, we will instead present our list of “must have” compendium works that cover a wide range of haunt-related issues and broader topics in parapsychology. Having these works will go a long way towards grounding you in the academic research that already exists on hauntings and the related world of high-strangeness:
• Auerbach, L. (2016). ESP, Hauntings and Poltergeists: A Parapsychologist’s Handbook. CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. A reprint of a popular 1991 book that is highly accessible to lay readers about parapsychological hypotheses for ghostly episodes.
• Cardeña, E., Lynn, S.J., & Krippner, S. (Eds.) (2014). Varieties of Anomalous Experience: Examining the Scientific Evidence. American Psychological Association. A set of academic reviews and treatises on various anomalous phenomena, including ghost-type experiences. It is an excellent general primer on high-strangeness.
• Cardeña, E., Palmer, J., & Marcusson-Clavertz, D. (Eds.). (2015). Parapsychology: A Handbook for the 21st century. McFarland. Another good overview of various issues of theory and practice in parapsychology that augment a general understanding of high-strangeness.
• French, C.C., & Stone, A. (2013). Anomalistic Psychology: Exploring Paranormal Belief and Experience. Red Globe Press. A lay reader friendly introduction to the psychology of paranormal belief and experience, with a strong emphasis on the scientific method.
• Gauld, A., & Cornell, A.D. (1979). Poltergeists. Routledge, Kegan & Paul. Illustrative poltergeist cases from all over the world are presented, dating from the 16th century to the late 20th century.
• Houran, J. (Ed.) (2004). From Shaman to Scientist: Essays on Humanity’s Search for Spirits. Scarecrow Press. A collection of academically-diverse reviews and treatises that delve into the psychological and sociocultural contexts that have accompanied and shaped ghost and poltergeist research over the centuries.
• Houran, J., & Lange, R. (Eds.). (2001). Hauntings and Poltergeists: Multidisciplinary Perspectives. McFarland. Provides detailed academic overviews of ghostly episodes theory and research up to 2001. As described earlier, this textbook comprises chapters by some of the world’s foremost authorities, summarizing their own work and expressing reflections in the areas of sociocultural, physical-physiological, and psychological perspectives.
• Irwin, H.J. (2009). The Psychology of Paranormal Belief: A Researcher’s Handbook. University of Hertfordshire Press. Although not a book on ghost research per se, it is an invaluable resource to understand many of the psychological correlates and potential mechanisms underlying belief in the paranormal.
• Jawer, M.A. (2020). Sensitive Soul: The Unseen Role of Emotion in Extraordinary States. Park Street Press. An effective exploration of the interrelation of emotion with processes that underlie some anomalous and exceptional human experiences. An excellent book to bolster one’s general education on high-strangeness.
• Martin, M. & Augustine, K. (Eds.) (2015). The Myth of an Afterlife: The Case Against Life After Death. Rowman & Littlefield. A diverse set of academic reviews and treatises from different disciplines that take a critical view of the idea that human consciousness survives physical death.
• Roll, W.G. (2004). The Poltergeist. Cosimo, Inc. A reprint of a classic 1972 text that provides an historical overview of “poltergeist” disturbances and discusses the latest research findings (at the time) that seemingly support the role of “recurrent spontaneous psychokinesis” (RSPK) in “poltergeist” disturbances.
• Storm & M.A. Thalbourne (Eds.) (2006). The Survival of Human Consciousness: Essays on the Possibility of Life After Death. McFarland. A good collection of academic treatises that are sympathetic to the notion of discarnate agency.
For our bibliophilic readers, there are many other compendia of haunting cases and experiences to suit your tastes. However, the above sources are those that we know are rooted in good investigation and science. Just remember the watchwords: educated and humble.

Podcasts
A PODCAST that's HIGHLY RELEVANT for people who are CURIOUS about the NATURE OF REALITY after listening to the TELEPATHY TAPES
Hello r/TheTelepathyTapes
My name is Ben. I've recently seen a few posts on this sub where people talk about interviews involving Diane Hennacy, Jeff Tarrant, Mona Sobhani, Leslie Kean, Helané Wahbeh, Marjorie Woollacott, Dean Radin, and others... to be honest it feels like every time someone mentions a scientist in these areas, I have already interviewed them.. So, on some of these posts I have felt compelled to comment mentioning that I have also interviewed these people. Some of the mods of this sub generously suggested I create a post combining these links, so that's what this is...
Firstly, I'll give a little bit of info / background about the show:
It's called Unravelling the Universe, and via open-minded interviews with scientists, academics, researchers, and experiencers, the show explores topics and phenomena primarily related to three questions:
What is the nature of reality? (Psi phenomena, consciousness, time, dreams, & more)
What happens after we die? (NDEs, past-life memories, mediumship, & more)
Are we alone in the Universe, or on Earth? (The UAP / UFO phenomenon)
We are approaching our 100th episode, and have probably recorded 50+ interviews that are highly relevant to those of you that are curious about reality after listening to the TT. Obviously I'm not going to include 50 links in this post, so I'll share a selection of the most relevant or most important (in my opinion). However, if the show seems interesting to you, I highly recommend you have a scroll through the previous episodes and see what grabs your interest!
All interviews are available to watch on YouTube or to listen to on Spotify, Apple, and lots of other podcast apps!
YouTube links to some of the most relevant / important interviews:
Dr. Diane Hennacy (Powell) (ft. in the TT)
Dr. Jeffrey Tarrant (ft. in the TT)
Dean Radin, PhD (Leading psi researcher - link to 1st interview but have interviewed Dean 3x)
Julie Beischel, PhD (Windbridge (founder) mediumship research)
Dr. Edward Kelly (A leading scientist in consciousness / psi studies, author of Irreducible Mind - link to 1st of 3 interviews)
Mona Sobhani, PhD (Neuroscientist interested in consciousness / spirituality)
Dr. Jim Tucker (world's leading authority on children who remember past-lives)
Helané Wahbeh (Director of Research at Institute of Noetic Science)
Leslie Kean (Surviving Death: A Journalist Investigates the Evidence for an Afterlife)
Prof. Marjorie Woollacott (Neuroscientist on Near-Death Experiences & more)
Prof. Stanley Krippner (Original dream telepathy researcher and one of the all time legends of consciousness related research - linked to 1st of 2 interviews)
Gail Hayssen (A naturally gifted psychic talks candidly about it all - 1st of 2 interviews with Gail)
Dr. Michael Nahm (Biologist on unsolved riddles of consciousness and reality - 1st of 2 interviews)
Bruce Leininger (Talking about his son's past-life memories - one of the most famous cases of this type EVER)
Dr. Bruce Greyson (One of the world's leading authorities on NDEs)
There are so many more that I could have included, but I will leave it there! To find the interviews on podcast apps search for Unravelling the Universe and get your scroll on!
When I next interview Diane or Jeff (hopefully soon!) I will probably post here to ask if any of you have any questions for them about the TT, although in case you miss that, feel free to include questions for them on this post.
Since I'm already posting, I thought I'd also include a small number of links to what I think are some of the most important books that explore these kinds of phenomena:
The Conscious Universe: The Scientific Truth of Psychic Phenomena by Dean Radin, PhD
Irreducible Mind: Toward a Psychology for the 21st Century by Dr. Edward Kelly et al
Surviving Death: A Journalist Investigates Evidence for an Afterlife by Leslie Kean
BEFORE: Children's Memories of Previous Lives by Dr. Jim Tucker (2 in 1 book)
I hope you check out the show, and I hope that it helps you to learn much more about this mysterious reality that we share. If you have any questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask! Thank you for not judging me too much for my self-promo ;)
TLDR: If you are curious about reality after listening to the TT, check out my show where I interview scientists (including Diane Hennacy) about similar phenomena. Just search Unravelling the Universe on YouTube / Spotify / podcast apps.

HOW TO CONDUCT A PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION (Paranormal Philippines Method) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jcu7awJVIiI
Study investigation if you can (not just Paranormal Investigation but Investigation in general, like what real detectives do because it helps with finding the truth)
Also, there are many ways to know something but you have to know when they are best used and what their strengths and limitations are, and much better if you have interdisciplinary knowledge because the Paranormal is a tricky topic to study. Or at least have contacts with experts in different fields
