Dream Journal Template (Suggested Format)
This dream journal format is offered as a practical starting point, not a rigid system.
Its purpose is to help you record dreams clearly, reduce memory distortion, and track possible precognitive elements over time.
You are encouraged to modify, simplify, or expand this structure to suit your own habits, intuition style, and goals. Some people prefer fewer fields; others benefit from more detail. What matters most is consistency and honesty, not perfection.
1️⃣ Basic Dream Record (always fill these)
Dream ID:
(Auto number or date-based, e.g., 2025-01-16-A)
Date Dreamed:
Time Woken / Recorded:
Sleep Context:
☐ Normal
☐ Overtired
☐ Emotional day
☐ Sick
☐ Alcohol / meds
☐ Interrupted sleep
(This helps rule out confounds later.)
2️⃣ Dream Content (raw, unfiltered)
Dream Narrative (verbatim):
(Write exactly what happened, no interpretation yet)
Key Images / Symbols:
(List nouns, not meanings — e.g., “red car,” “crowded hallway,” “water rising”)
Emotional Tone During Dream:
☐ Neutral
☐ Fear
☐ Urgency
☐ Sadness
☐ Relief
☐ Curiosity
☐ Other: _______
3️⃣ Precognition-Specific Fields (Pouliot-style + expanded)
Question Asked (if any):
(Explicit question, or “none”)
Type of Dream (initial guess):
☐ Possible precognitive
☐ Symbolic / metaphorical
☐ Processing / memory
☐ Unknown
Precognitive Confidence (at time of recording):
0–10 scale
(Gut feeling only — no justification yet)
Time Horizon Felt:
☐ Hours
☐ Days
☐ Weeks
☐ Months
☐ Unclear
4️⃣ Interpretation (deliberately separated)
Initial Interpretation (Day 0):
(What you thought it meant when you woke up)
⚠️ Important rule:
Never edit this later.
If your interpretation changes, add a new entry below.
5️⃣ Outcome Tracking (this is where rigor lives)
Did Anything Related Occur?
☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ Not yet
☐ Unsure
Date Event Occurred (if applicable):
Description of Event:
(Stick to observable facts, not meaning)
Match Type:
☐ Literal
☐ Symbolic
☐ Emotional
☐ Partial
☐ Miss
Degree of Correspondence (0–10):
(How close was the match?)
6️⃣ Confidence Calibration (very important)
Confidence Reassessment (after outcome):
0–10
Was this:
☐ Overestimated
☐ Underestimated
☐ Accurate
What misled me (if any):
☐ Emotion
☐ Symbol literalism
☐ Wishful thinking
☐ Fear
☐ None
This section is gold for skill development.
7️⃣ Meta-Notes (long-term pattern building)
Personal Symbol Dictionary Update:
(Did a symbol repeat with a consistent meaning?)
Signal Quality Notes:
(Clear / fuzzy / intrusive / calm / emotionally charged)
Category (after review):
☐ Warning-type intuition
☐ True precognition (experience-based)
☐ Presentiment
☐ Non-precognitive
8️⃣ Long-Term Indexing (optional but powerful)
At the bottom of each entry, add tags:
Tags:
#warning
#dream
#symbolic
#work
#family
#danger
#neutral
#high-confidence
Over time, this lets you:
-
See what kind of dreams are accurate
-
Spot patterns in timing
-
Separate intuition from noise
🧠 WHY THIS TEMPLATE WORKS
This structure does three crucial things:
-
Separates perception from interpretation
(Most people fail here.) -
Freezes memory in time
(So confidence isn’t rewritten later.) -
Trains calibration, not belief
(You get better, not more convinced.)
This is exactly what serious researchers recommend — and very few practitioners actually do.
🌱 Optional Add-Ons (use only if helpful)
-
Physiological state on waking (heart rate, tension)
-
Moon phase / circadian notes (only if you later see correlations — don’t assume them)
-
Lucidity level (0–5)
-
Sleep duration
These are secondary, not core.
